After seeing a tripod with a hook on the bottom, I had the idea of using a weight to add stability. Our Velbon has a very good head, but it's too lightweight to be stable in the wind; even fast panning makes it fall over. So I've added a weight, reused from a broken washing machine. You could use a 5 litre water container with a handle; Light to carry to the location, then fill it with water and you've got a 5KG+ stable tripod. Or fill it with drinks for after the shoot!
