Chinook sounds very strange

Chinook sounds very strange Video Clips. Duration : 3.85 Mins.
I knew what this was long before I saw it. Nothing else sounds like a Chinook! But I have never heard that strange slow chuffing on approach before. You can hear it around 55 seconds to 1 minute 20seconds, again even louder at 2 minutes 10 seconds to 2 minutes 40 seconds. It sounds like a steam train! Clearly one of the six rotary wings had something different about it. Pitch? Most unlikely. Bird strike maybe? And what was it doing, maneouvering in that way? This video was taken in the Thames Valley the weekend of 20th/21st September. Any information gratefully received. Oh and this is a classic example of when a tripod is NOT a good thing! I broke mine trying to unmount the camera when I ran out of tripod head angle. Tripods are fine for distant objects with little movement, but you need a really expensive fluid head for this sort of work.

How to make any lightweight tripod into a stable heavyweight tripod for free/cheap

How to make any lightweight tripod into a stable heavyweight tripod for free/cheap Video Clips. Duration : 0.87 Mins.
After seeing a tripod with a hook on the bottom, I had the idea of using a weight to add stability. Our Velbon has a very good head, but it's too lightweight to be stable in the wind; even fast panning makes it fall over. So I've added a weight, reused from a broken washing machine. You could use a 5 litre water container with a handle; Light to carry to the location, then fill it with water and you've got a 5KG+ stable tripod. Or fill it with drinks for after the shoot!

Review of Davis and Sanford Pro Vista Airlift tripod with FM18 head

Review of Davis and Sanford Pro Vista Airlift tripod with FM18 head Video Clips. Duration : 6.77 Mins.
Davis and Sanford Pro Vista Airlift Tripod with fm 18 fluid head - video review I hate buying stuff online and trying to figure out how things work based on vague technical specs and tiny pictures, so as a public service, I decided to put together a little quick and dirty video review (with a little humor thrown in...I couldn't help myself.) Overall, it's a good tripod for the money, but there are some features that could and should have been better designed to make it more convenient to use. Sorry about the sound. I noticed it on the final check and didn't feel like going back to correct it. Some minor things I noticed that are not in the vid: The main screw on the QD plates is removable, and can be switched out for a larger one that comes attached to the tripod head. The head sometimes makes a slight squishing sound when you pan. It is very faint and probably would not pick up on a mic, especially in a film setting where the mic is on a boom some distance from the camera...but it is kind of weird. I've seen people complaining about a weird smell on message baords...I did not notice any odor except for a very faint (and not unpleasant) smell of plastic and metal and grease...it just smells like a new tripod. The airlift feature does not really do what I hoped, but the tripod is so tall you don't even really need to use the center column, unless you're a giant...I'm about five seven, and even with the center column down, with the legs fully extended, the tripod is about ...

Vanguard Nivelo 245BK Tripod Review

Vanguard Nivelo 245BK Tripod Review Video Clips. Duration : 5.95 Mins.
froknowsphoto.com When the Nivelo 245BK from Vanguard landed on my doorstep I was thinking what in the world would I do with such a small tripod? This is truly a very small and compact metal tripod that does not seem like it would server a huge purpose. I was actually wrong, there is a nice place in my bag or car for a tripod just like this. Not only is it small and made out of metal it has some very interesting features to make setting it up and breaking it down easier. You have this four twist locking system for each leg that allows you to either extend each of the four sections or just one section at a time. This is a really nice feature that I would like to see added to some of the pro tripods. Don't get me wrong, this is not a tripod that I would put my Nikon D4 on but this is perfect for smaller entry DSLR cameras as well as point and shoots. Just like there is not one bag to rule them all there is not one tripod to rule them all. Sometimes have a few different options will allow you to take the right tripod for you wherever you are going. For example I recently went to Florida and wanted to travel light with a small tripod to use to hold the Nikon D3200 while it was filming. I used the Nivelo while I was near the pool with the D3200 and 24-70 2.8. I was not worried that it would one fall in the pool or two tip over. A quick tip for tripods is make sure that the lens lines up with one of the legs to that it does not tip over. Who is this tripod for? If you do a lot ...

Unboxing and test driving the Konova slider

Unboxing and test driving the Konova slider Video Clips. Duration : 4.53 Mins.
The slider is delivered! I expected a big box but this was not very impressive. That's a good thing, though, because smaller means less weight and easy carrying. First impression: very solid. This thing will not bend easily so a camera like an EX1r with monitor, mics etc should be no problem. It's a simple piece of gear: screw the feet on and it's ready to go. Well, in my case I had to adjust the bearings because out of the box they were a little tight. When placing on a tripod it obviously has to be perfectly balanced. And you need to really lock down the head because it will tilt under the weight of the camera. I had a hard time locking down my Manfrotto 503 head. If it's not rock solid, you will get camera shake, particularly when you reach the end of the slider. A DSLR like the 550D on the slider with one tripod is manageable, even though it didn't feel 100% With a bigger or heavier camera, I would recommend 2 tripods or supports for best results. Especially when shooting tele. I tried placing the slider vertically but had a very hard time to go upwards smoothly. Down was easier, for obvious reasons, but you need a good monitoring device to know what you're doing. And 4 hands. I'm not sure I'll use the vertical option very much. All in all, this is a very tight little slider. It's definitely worth the money and will greatly increase your painter's palette, so to speak. You won't regret this purchase. Over at filmersblog.nl I have a few close ups of the slider and the ...

I used the Sunpak Platinum Plus 7500 Pro tripod for this video, along with the Canon HV20. All demo shots were done with no practice. This technique is not meant for very large or heavy cameras, but is ideal for consumer-sized camcorders like the HV20.

The Best Quick Release Adapter for DSLR Cameras Video Clips. Duration : 5.22 Mins.
If you're a photographer or videographer, having a quick release system for your camera gear is a must. This video gives you a rundown on why I feel the Manfrotto 394 quick release adapter system is the best one to use for a DSLR camera. When I was doing research on what QR system to buy, I was surprised by the lack of information on the Manfrotto 394. I've been using the 394 for a while now and have it on most of my camera equipment. It's a indispensable piece of gear that I feel will survive many camera "upgrades." If you're looking into a quick release system and you use a DSLR camera, then I think that the Manfrotto 394 is the perfect solution. FREE GIVE-AWAY! I will be giving away a Manfrotto 394 quick release system (baseplate + adapter) to one lucky winner. To enter, just "Like" my facebook page at: www.facebook.com I'll pick one lucky winner on January 1st, 2012. I will ship to anyone in the world! Good Luck! Thanks to cheesycam.com I learned about the Weifeng WF-717H fluid head. His blog pointed me to an ebay seller who supposedly sells this head for . They were sold out, and others were selling them for . Still a good deal. i did my usual searching and found the 75mm ball mount version with a tripod and carring case on Amazon for only 9! Free shipping and no tax. With the glowing recommendations I had to try it. I have a new Panasonic GH-1 (hacked) and my only tripod is an old Bogen I used with a 5x7 camera back in the day. It came in today, and I thought I'd share my first unboxing video with you guys. Shot with my GH-1 and 14-45mm. Edited in Sony Vegas 9. Song is Groove Armada - I See You Baby. I haven't shot with this yet, but at first inspection, it is well made. Some plastic parts, but for any DSLR shooter, the weight is not an issue. The head is smooth in both directions. Perhaps a nicer quick release mount would be nice. Calapsed, the carrying bag is small with a padded shoulder. Its not the lightest tripod. I will be getting and will review a very nice light tripod next the Vanguard Alta 263AP 9 (I just got one for !!!) That is for light weight street shooting. i tried the head and it was VERY smooth. Thanks for watching!!!!

PVC Tripod Adapter Tube. Duration : 3.72 Mins.
An adapter to allow you to use the PVC camera mount on a tripod. Why not just use the tripod? Because with the adapter in place, you can switch between the tripod and a steadicam and a monopod without ever having to unscrew anything. It's like having a quick release on every piece of camera equipment. Once again, this is intended for lightweight cameras/ camcorders. Feel free to use heavier equipment, but don't blame me if it breaks. To learn how to make the PVC Camera Mount, try www.youtube.com For the Treepod, go to www.youtube.com The monopod can be set up as the Snowpod www.youtube.com or the Spearpod www.youtube.com And for the Fig Rig, check out this website www.flickr.com for the building instructions and this video www.youtube.com for the PVC Camera Mount modification. Cheers!

Making Your Own Podcast, Episode 1: The Camera Video Clips. Duration : 4.47 Mins.
Got an idea you want to share with the world? Great! So how do you record it so your message gets across? That's what we're talking about in this series - making your own podcast, and making it look like a million bucks. Episode 1: The Camera looks at the video camera we picked for our podcasting work, and talks about why we picked it. We use the Canon HV20 camera -- two of them, in fact. Why? Big sensor, 24p recording, reasonable price and a great user community all played into the decision. Plus, it mows the lawn. Yours may not come with that option. Check local listings. So what's next? Sound, tripods, Steadicams, editing, color correction, marketing, branding, motion graphics and more. I have time to do this because the camera mows my lawn for me. It also picks up if I'm messy. It's a good camera. Stay tuned for more.

Let it be known that the Samsung Galaxy SII is useless for vlog'ing. Nowhere near wide enough a lens. I should, you know, buy a proper video camera. And what the hell is the point of even letting a mobile phone record video in such a high resolution? Useless bloody marketing gimmicks which do nothing to make a product 'better'. But hey, it's a decent phone and my new company is paying for it. So, I've been rather quiet and boring these last few months thanks to starting a new job (all that annual leave lost :( ), but I have been amassing the majority of my planned ideal camera rig thanks to the f'tonne of work and the pay rise I've snagged. It at least kinda makes up for it, right? right? Ffffuuuuu. More travel vids later this year and next year, I promise. Main gear featured in this vid: ONA Bags - The Bowery Sirui Tripods - T-1205X Poor little spider :-( reldred.com

5 Camera Hits (T3i) Tube. Duration : 1.00 Mins.
From being dropped to falling off of unstable tripods, my t3i camera has truly been through a lot. Thankfully the only thing that has broken is the aperture ring, which I able to fix up with some really small screwdrivers. Now it doesn't click when I change the aperture, which is actually convenient when filming lines from sunshine to shade. Home-made camera jib
in Camera, Homemade by Jimmie Townsend
Home-made camera jib Video Clips. Duration : 7.57 Mins.
One very windy day in Michigan, my flag pole came crashing down in my yard. I saved the pole sections and later had an idea to use them for a home made camera jib. I bought 2 used german equatorial telescope mounts and tripods on eBay. I disassembled the mounts for the worm gears, axles and tube cuff. One gear is used for tilt control and I eventually plan to use the 2nd gear for pan control. The motor controller was purchased here: www.electronickits.com Other parts I had laying around the house or bought at garage sale or hardware store. Although the motor is noisy, it's possible to do dutch rolls by mounting the camera sideways on the platform. The tube can also be fixed at 45 degrees in the cuff to accept our Merlin Steadicam on the front-end axle (motorless/quiet mode). We offer this jib/camera/operator combo for hire to shoot real estate videos (home walkthrus, etc.) or any shots requiring smooth, sweeping camera motion or unusual angles. palmeridigital.com
