The tripod I've linked to looks to be a newer model, and if you want the quick connector you will need to buy it separately. The cost of those 2 items together is about what I paid when I bought my tripod and they came all together. You won't ever regret having a quick connect mount on your tripod, it makes life so much easier when setting up for a quick shot. I have used an abused this tripod. Brought home covered in mud and soaked in rain many times on my rides around Panama and I have been very impressed by how strong it is. When I hurt my leg on the Cerro Banco trip I used it as a cane as I hiked for hours to and from the waterfall. Stopping at small rivers once in a while to wash the mud that gathered up on the bottom. I do wish it would fit better in my luggage, but taking everything into account like size, weight, cost, and quality I really believe this is the best tripod on the market for a traveling film maker on a budget. I've abused mine for over a year now and it still looks brand new.

HDR Time-lapse @ TheVoder.com DC is one of the most difficult places to shoot. No tripods, no fancy equipment, only a single camera. After planning my shots and figuring out what time would be best to shoot, I went out and started this HDR Time-lapse production. During the course of the shoot I was stopped 9 times by NPS (national parks service) and three times by DC Metro police. Apparently there was a target on me... It does look suspicious though when a guy is toting around a giant blue time-lapse slider, 3 tripods and a battery. Because of the numerous roadblocks I wasn't able to use my Dynamic Perception time-lapse slider as much as I had intended, but the shots that I did get were pretty impactful (In my opinion). This is my first project conceptualized completely in HDR. During the course of the shoot I was able to refine my HDR process and eliminate almost 30 hours of processing time by switching some settings around on both my camera and in certain programs. HDR is one of the most fun things to shoot and this production really opened my eyes to what it's capable of. It doesn't need to be all "Harry Potterish" but a simple and subtle blend of imagery will do the trick. This project is only the first in a long line of ideas I have brewing up in my head. If you are serious with your macro photography then you might want to consider some form of tripod fixture which allows you to focus the camera by "racking" the focus which is the preferred method rather than using the lens to focus when using high magnification. This is a review of the Manfrotto implementation of such a device, the 454 micropositioning plate. To facilitate quick mounting onto the tripod and camera to plate I recommend you employ quick release plates. The design is adequate for the purpose however the lack of thought in the engineering of this product means there is considerable side to side and up and down movement in the slide assembly which means positioning at high magnification is difficult. At over £60 in the UK this product is IMHO overpriced compared to other manufacturers products which have more features as well.

Place: Tali, Helsinki 2011 just before Tali Open 2011 final ceremonies. In 2009 Tali Open Matti and Janne had filming session with Avery Jenkins. They used two Hi Speed cameras. Unfortunately both cams broke down soon after and this time we had only one Hi Speed cam. I tried several different techniques to slow down Full HD cam pic. I wasn 't happy with the results. We should have had at least three cameras hooked on tripods. So there was too much movement and not enough frames in recording modes. 3D pic is stabilized as well as cam in the landing zone. 3D is 1,5X and Hi Speed 2x from native resolution. Co camera men: Janne Räsänen, Matti Franssila and Hannu Lappalainen.
Place: Tali, Helsinki 2011 just before Tali Open 2011 final ceremonies. In 2009 Tali Open Matti and Janne had filming session with Avery Jenkins. They used two Hi Speed cameras. Unfortunately both cams broke down soon after and this time we had only one Hi Speed cam. I tried several different techniques to slow down Full HD cam pic. I wasn 't happy with the results. We should have had at least three cameras hooked on tripods. So there was too much movement and not enough frames in recording modes. 3D pic is stabilized as well as cam in the landing zone. 3D is 1,5X and Hi Speed 2x from native resolution. *sorry for the weird video quality, it's 1080i not p that's why you see those scan lines* This in not much of review, it's more of a video for you to see what this ball head tripod looks like and how it works. The common argument I see in forums is that it is cheap, not steady. My final thought is that for this is the BEST tripod you can get. Obviously this is nothing like a Manfrotto, but then again people like me who gets this are not professional photographer, I'm just looking for something to hold my camera and have the flexibility of a ball head. Once you use a ball head you will never go back.

Finally it's done. 2nd time to do a pre-nup video with Eric Dima-Ala, ILM friends and with the super cool and funny soon to be husband and wife - Reuben & Carissa. As a complete noob, each of us contributed in the making of this project especially the couple who did the concept and script. We used different types and brand of DSLR (Canon and Nikon), P&S and underwater cameras, Flycam Nano, Tripods, mono-pad, and 450 size helicam equipped with small digital camera for the low altitude aerial shots. The filming lasted for a couple of months since all of us are working and the only free time to shoot is every weekend. Editing in Adobe Premiere, After effects, and Looks Builder took me one month due to PC speed problem and color correcting since every footage have different color setup due to different camera we used. Doing this kind of pre-nup video is really fun especially after we saw the final movie output. Project aim was to re-create a blockbuster battle scene on a low budget by using digital visual effects. Here is the 3rd Stop motion commercial I made while working as an intern at Camp Woodward last summer. The idea was to illustrate how the Digital Media program at Camp Woodward utilizes tons of Professional grade equipment. From DSLR's, top-tier video cameras, lighting, stages, computers, software, and even GoPros, this commercial illustrates how this particular camp works all the areas of video and photography production under one roof. In this commercial, all the equipment get together one night to have a break dance battle to clarify if one of them is better than the other, until they realize that they all work together to produce real quality work. Which is what the Digital Media camp at Woodward strives to do with each camper that attends that camp. For one whole week, professional instructors in video and photography work with the campers, showing them how to use their video/photo cameras to the best of their abilities. We also teach them how to use professional software like Final Cut Pro 7, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects. All in all, we hope to give the campers the knowledge to go out and create more creative content with the knowledge we give them during their week session with the Digital Media program. This video shows a solution for BlackRapid camera strap owners who are having quite a bit of a dilemma with switching their DSLR from a BlackRapid camera strap to a tripod. That's because the BlackRapid attaches to the DSLR tripod access (bottom of the camera), therefore restricting the ability to have a tripod quick release plate attached to it at the same time. Problem solved using a Cotton Carrier Universal Quick Release Plate.

These were just a few test shots I got before it ran out of battery becuase as always I never checked to see its power life. All colour correction was done by me in sony vegas movie studio. I used colour curves, brightness and contrast, colour balance, saturation adjust and sharpen. I knew what this was long before I saw it. Nothing else sounds like a Chinook! But I have never heard that strange slow chuffing on approach before. You can hear it around 55 seconds to 1 minute 20seconds, again even louder at 2 minutes 10 seconds to 2 minutes 40 seconds. It sounds like a steam train! Clearly one of the six rotary wings had something different about it. Pitch? Most unlikely. Bird strike maybe? And what was it doing, maneouvering in that way? This video was taken in the Thames Valley the weekend of 20th/21st September. Any information gratefully received. Oh and this is a classic example of when a tripod is NOT a good thing! I broke mine trying to unmount the camera when I ran out of tripod head angle. Tripods are fine for distant objects with little movement, but you need a really expensive fluid head for this sort of work.

After seeing a tripod with a hook on the bottom, I had the idea of using a weight to add stability. Our Velbon has a very good head, but it's too lightweight to be stable in the wind; even fast panning makes it fall over. So I've added a weight, reused from a broken washing machine. You could use a 5 litre water container with a handle; Light to carry to the location, then fill it with water and you've got a 5KG+ stable tripod. Or fill it with drinks for after the shoot!

Davis and Sanford Pro Vista Airlift Tripod with fm 18 fluid head - video review I hate buying stuff online and trying to figure out how things work based on vague technical specs and tiny pictures, so as a public service, I decided to put together a little quick and dirty video review (with a little humor thrown in...I couldn't help myself.) Overall, it's a good tripod for the money, but there are some features that could and should have been better designed to make it more convenient to use. Sorry about the sound. I noticed it on the final check and didn't feel like going back to correct it. Some minor things I noticed that are not in the vid: The main screw on the QD plates is removable, and can be switched out for a larger one that comes attached to the tripod head. The head sometimes makes a slight squishing sound when you pan. It is very faint and probably would not pick up on a mic, especially in a film setting where the mic is on a boom some distance from the camera...but it is kind of weird. I've seen people complaining about a weird smell on message baords...I did not notice any odor except for a very faint (and not unpleasant) smell of plastic and metal and grease...it just smells like a new tripod. The airlift feature does not really do what I hoped, but the tripod is so tall you don't even really need to use the center column, unless you're a giant...I'm about five seven, and even with the center column down, with the legs fully extended, the tripod is about ...

This is truly a very small and compact metal tripod that does not seem like it would server a huge purpose. I was actually wrong, there is a nice place in my bag or car for a tripod just like this. Not only is it small and made out of metal it has some very interesting features to make setting it up and breaking it down easier. You have this four twist locking system for each leg that allows you to either extend each of the four sections or just one section at a time. This is a really nice feature that I would like to see added to some of the pro tripods. Don't get me wrong, this is not a tripod that I would put my Nikon D4 on but this is perfect for smaller entry DSLR cameras as well as point and shoots. Just like there is not one bag to rule them all there is not one tripod to rule them all. Sometimes have a few different options will allow you to take the right tripod for you wherever you are going. For example I recently went to Florida and wanted to travel light with a small tripod to use to hold the Nikon D3200 while it was filming. I used the Nivelo while I was near the pool with the D3200 and 24-70 2.8. I was not worried that it would one fall in the pool or two tip over.
